Could the noise of users groaning be a signal of success?

Today Klout deployed the score calculation changes announced over a week ago , and the people noticed (boy, did they!).

The intensity of the response makes me think about how successful Klout has been in establishing itself as the measure of influence, so successful that they now need to think twice before tinkering with it.. people watch this in a way you wish they did their credit score...

To draw an analogy; remember the intensity of the reaction Facebook got when Beacon came out? Were the users saying: "How dare you, I am leaving!"?  (Not quite, as we all have seen the growth of the Facebook user base has only accelerated since then) No, the users were saying: "How dare you!  this is important for me, don't mess with it"

Paraphrasing Cervantes de Saavedra: "I hear groans Sancho... a sign that we are moving".. Congratulations to Klout!

What do you think?
